Efficient protein skimmers and fleece filters represent the main technical advance in the removal of nutrients. Previously, excess nutrients were one of the main challenges in keeping stony corals. However, the new technology now works so well that nutrient limitation has become a greater challenge.

For filtering, the water runs through a self-constructed fleece filter. A Bubble King 300 deluxe from Royal Exclusiv is used as a skimmer.
