Conomurex luhuanus - The cyano-eating cone snail for the marine aquarium
Description and features
The Conomurex luhuanus, better known as Cone fencing snail, is an unusual and extremely useful inhabitant of the marine aquarium. Its distinctive, cone-shaped shell and its characteristic, protruding „funny eyes“ make them a real eye-catcher, while their active behavior visibly enlivens the reef tank. This snail species is robust, peaceful and ideal for positively supporting biological processes in the substrate.
Useful properties in the marine aquarium
The cone fencer snail is one of the most valuable Floor caretakers in modern marine aquaristics. It is specialized in the grazing of Cyano saws and thus contributes effectively to the control of unwanted deposits on the soil substrate. At the same time, it eats with great stamina Diatoms, which often occur in newly set up or nutrient-rich tanks. With its continuous cleaning behavior, it ensures a clean, loose substrate and supports the biological balance in the aquarium. Its inquisitive gaze and widely stretched eyestalks offer a charming, lively observation during the course of the day.
Keeping and care
The Conomurex luhuanus prefers a fine to medium-grained sandy bottom on which it can actively move around and search for food. It is easy to care for and can easily be kept in mixed reef tanks, as it shows no interest in corals or invertebrates. In addition to its natural food sources, it also accepts supplementary feeds such as algae leaves or fine frozen food if the supply in the aquarium becomes scarce.
